INCLUSIVE AND MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION IN ARABIC LANGUAGE LEARNING
Abstract
Student diversity is a fundamental reality in the Indonesian education system that demands a fair, inclusive, and respectful approach to learning. This article aims to examine, conceptually and practically, inclusive education and multicultural education in Arabic language learning in response to the heterogeneity of students’ backgrounds, including cultural, linguistic, academic ability, and special needs. The study method is a literature review analyzing various scientific sources, education policies, and relevant research on inclusive, multicultural, and Arabic-language learning. The results of the study show that inclusive and multicultural education is a complementary approach in creating adaptive, humanist, and democratic Arabic language learning. These two approaches can be implemented through learning differentiation, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), the use of multimodal media, collaborative learning across backgrounds, and authentic assessments that respect students’ processes and attitudes. In addition, integrating multicultural values into the curriculum, using cross-cultural texts, engaging in contextual dialogue, and undertaking collaborative projects on diversity have been proven to improve language competence while fostering attitudes of tolerance, empathy, and religious moderation. Although still faced with various challenges, the role of teachers and the support of national education policies are key factors in the successful implementation of inclusive and multicultural education in Arabic language learning.
