Forms of Mother-Tongue Interference in Arabic Speech;A Study Based on Uriel Weinreich’s Theory at the Pondok Pesantren Riyadlul Ulum Wadda’wah Condong Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to analyze mother tongue interference in Arabic speaking among female students of Riyadlul Ulum Wadda’wah Islamic Boarding School, Condong, based on Uriel Weinreich’s theory. It focuses on three aspects: the forms of language interference, the factors causing it, and its effects on students’ Arabic speaking proficiency. This research employed a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and were analyzed through data collection, presentation, interpretation, and explanation based on Weinreich’s framework. The findings reveal three forms of mother tongue interference: phonological, grammatical, and lexical interference.The study highlights the importance of strengthening the Arabic-speaking environment and increasing oral practice to minimize mother tongue interference.
