Integration of Technology and 21st-Century Skills in the Arabic Language Curriculum: A Systematic Literature Review

This systematic literature review examines how technology and 21st-century skills, namely critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, are integrated into Arabic language curricula. Following the PRISMA 2020 protocol and a Population-Concept-Context framework, 90 records were identified through an AI-assisted database search; 78 studies published between 2017 and 2026 met the eligibility criteria and were synthesized thematically. The review finds that curriculum-embedded technologies, including learning management systems, gamification, mobile and blended learning, and multimedia materials, are consistently associated with gains in engagement, motivation, and skill-specific outcomes, while 4C-based material and lesson-plan redesign strengthens critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Persistent constraints include uneven teacher technological pedagogical content knowledge, infrastructure gaps, and curricula that still lag behind policy ambitions such as Indonesia's Kurikulum Merdeka. The review concludes that sustained teacher professional development and institutional policy support are necessary conditions for translating isolated classroom innovation into systemic curriculum reform.
