Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the application of ToMuf (Tholabul Mufrodat) media, a word puzzle game based on Game-Based Learning (GBL), in improving the understanding of Arabic vocabulary of class X students of MAN 1 Malang City. Vocabulary is a basic element in Arabic language learning, but students often have difficulty in mastering it. Therefore, an innovative game-based approach is an alternative to increase students' interest and mastery of vocabulary. This study used quantitative method with data collection through questionnaire. The results showed that around 70% of students gave positive responses to ToMuf media, showing increased motivation, interest in learning, and ease in understanding vocabulary. The fun and interactive learning process makes ToMuf as an effective learning media and relevant to students' characteristics. Nevertheless, there are some obstacles such as class management, limited time, and uneven student participation. Overall, ToMuf proved to be feasible to use as an alternative media in learning Arabic vocabulary at the high school level
